An IPL-replacement chip (PicoBoot on any model, or KunaiGC on DOL-001 only) is soldered in so the console boots into Swiss and loads games and homebrew from an SD adapter. SD adapters (SD2SP2 in the DOL-001's Serial Port 2, or a memory-card-slot adapter) are add-ons.
