Diagnoses and fixes the optical drive when it will not read, load, spin or eject. The work can include cleaning and adjusting the laser (on the PS1 often the trim pots), lubricating the sled, and fixing gears, motors or ribbon cables. A brand new laser is its own service (Laser Replacement).
